Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes. Florida Attic Professionals specializes in attic restoration, rodent contamination cleanup, insulation removal and rodent exclusion work for Florida homes.

Our owner, Jason, actually began specializing in rodent and wildlife control in 2007, before Florida Attic Professionals evolved into the attic restoration company it is today. That experience means we have nearly 20 years of hands-on knowledge identifying the ways rats, squirrels, raccoons and other animals enter Florida attics and the damage they can leave behind.

Today, our focus is on the attic itself, identifying and sealing accessible entry points, removing contaminated insulation, cleaning and sanitizing the attic and installing new insulation when needed.

We do not trap, remove or relocate live rodents or wildlife. If active trapping or animal removal is necessary, that portion should be handled by a wildlife control company.

  • Yes. We offer rodent exclusion and attic entry-point sealing in conjunction with our attic restoration services.

Jason has nearly 20 years of experience identifying rodent and wildlife entry points and has developed an excellent eye for the small openings, gaps and vulnerable areas animals can use to access Florida attics.

Our attic services include an inspection and sealing off two entry points at no additional charge. If additional entry points are discovered, they can typically be sealed for approximately $150 per entry point, depending on the size, location and type of repair required.

Our goal is to address the entry points we can identify and access so that once your contaminated attic has been cleaned and restored, you're not leaving obvious pathways for rats or animals to return.

  • Our exclusion service covers the entry points identified and sealed as part of your attic project, but it does not include an ongoing rodent-control or renewable exclusion warranty.

Florida Attic Professionals specializes in attic restoration and remediation rather than ongoing pest control. We do not provide trapping, baiting, monitoring or recurring rodent service calls.

For homeowners who want ongoing monitoring, trapping or a renewable whole-home rodent warranty, we recommend maintaining a relationship with a licensed pest or wildlife control company. We’re also happy to work alongside your existing pest or wildlife control provider, serving as an experienced second set of eyes to help identify potential attic entry points that may have been overlooked.

  • No. Florida Attic Professionals does not trap, poison, bait, relocate or remove live rodents or wildlife.

Our specialty begins with the attic itself. We can inspect for accessible entry points, perform exclusion work and address the mess animals have left behind through professional insulation removal, attic cleaning, decontamination, sanitization and insulation replacement.

If animals are actively living inside the structure and trapping or removal is necessary, we recommend having a pest or wildlife control company handle that portion before or in coordination with your attic restoration.

  • Rodents and wildlife can leave feces, urine, nesting materials and other contamination throughout attic insulation. They may also tunnel through, compress or otherwise damage insulation while living and nesting in the attic.

When contamination is extensive, simply adding new insulation over the old insulation does not address what's underneath it.

Our complete rodent and wildlife attic restoration process can include removing the contaminated insulation, performing a detailed secondary cleaning to remove droppings, nesting materials and remaining debris, sanitizing the attic and installing fresh insulation once the attic has been properly cleaned.

The result is essentially a fresh start for the attic rather than simply covering contaminated material with new insulation.

  • Yes. Rat dropping and rodent feces cleanup is an important part of our attic restoration process.

After contaminated insulation has been removed, our crew performs a secondary detailed cleaning of the exposed attic. This allows us to remove droppings, nesting material, construction debris and other contamination that insulation removal alone may leave behind.

This secondary cleaning is one of the important differences between a true attic restoration and simply having an insulation company vacuum out old insulation and blow new material back in.

  • If contamination is underneath or throughout the existing insulation, the insulation generally needs to be removed in order for us to properly access and clean the attic.

Rodent urine, feces and nesting materials are often distributed throughout the insulation rather than sitting neatly in one accessible area. Removing the old insulation gives our technicians access to the attic floor and concealed areas so the space can receive the detailed cleaning required as part of a full attic remediation or restoration.

If your attic currently has no insulation, we are able to perform attic cleaning without the insulation-removal phase.

  • Yes. Sanitization is available as part of our rodent and wildlife attic restoration process.

Once the contaminated insulation has been removed and the attic has received its secondary detailed cleaning, we apply a hospital grade disinfectant treatment to exposed attic surfaces before new insulation is installed.

Cleaning first is important. Our process isn't simply spraying or fogging a product over contaminated insulation. We want the contaminated material and accessible debris physically removed before the attic moves into the sanitizing and rebuilding stages.

  • They can. In addition to contaminating and disturbing insulation, rodents may chew wiring, damage HVAC ducts and create or enlarge openings around the structure.

During an attic restoration, our crew may identify visible conditions that should be addressed before new insulation is installed. Depending on the issue, we may be able to address it as part of our scope or recommend that you have an HVAC technician, electrician, roofer or other appropriate professional make the repair.

One advantage of removing contaminated insulation is that it exposes areas of the attic that may have been hidden for years. This is why every attic restoration receives a comprehensive attic inspection.

In the case of needing more extensive repairs, we will document these issues as part of the attic inspection phase of the restoration. You will also have the opportunity to put your attic project on hold to address any major repairs prior to blowing back in your new insulation. We offer every client the ability to turn your attic remediation into two phases, at no additional charge. This is often helpful for clients who need to address duct work or electrical repairs in the attic prior to installing the new insulation.

  • Possibly. Scratching, scurrying, chewing or movement overhead, particularly at night, is a strong indicator of rodent or wildlife activity.

Other signs of a possible rodent problem include droppings in the attic, urine or musty odors, disturbed insulation, nesting material, dead animal smell, chewed materials, or visible entry points around the home.

If you're unsure what's happening, contact us and tell us what you've been experiencing. We can help determine whether your situation falls within our attic restoration and exclusion services or whether a pest-control professional should be your first call.

  • Not necessarily.

A few isolated signs of past activity don't automatically mean that every attic needs to have all of its insulation removed. The appropriate solution depends on the extent of the contamination, condition and age of the insulation, location of the activity, and overall condition of the attic.

We don't believe in recommending a complete attic restoration when a homeowner doesn't need one. We'll gather information about your attic and your situation to help you determine whether you're dealing with a localized issue or contamination extensive enough to justify insulation removal and a complete restoration.

  • Rodent control focuses on the animals. Attic restoration focuses on what the animals did to the attic.

A pest or wildlife control company may provide trapping, baiting, monitoring and ongoing pest-management services.

Florida Attic Professionals specializes in the attic environment after rodent or wildlife activity. Our services can include identifying and sealing accessible entry points, removing contaminated insulation, cleaning rodent feces and nesting materials, sanitizing the attic and installing new insulation.

Because of Jason's background in rodent and wildlife control, we understand both sides of the problem—but today our specialty is restoring the attic and repairing the conditions within our scope rather than providing ongoing rat control service.

  • Yes. Our attic restoration services aren't limited to rats and mice. We can remediate attic contamination left behind by raccoons, squirrels, bats and other wildlife, including contaminated insulation, feces, urine and nesting materials.

We do not trap or remove the animals themselves. If wildlife is still actively occupying the home, removal should be handled by an appropriate wildlife professional before or in coordination with the restoration.

Once the animal issue has been addressed, Florida Attic Professionals can take care of the dirty part—removing damaged insulation, cleaning and sanitizing the attic and rebuilding the insulation system.

  • Contact Florida Attic Professionals and tell us a little about what you're experiencing. Let us know whether you're hearing animals, have found droppings, are dealing with odors or already know that your insulation has been contaminated.

For many projects, we can provide a fast, free and accurate initial quote using your property information along with a few questions and photos when needed.

If you're moving forward with an attic restoration, we can inspect the attic and accessible exterior areas for rodent entry points as part of the process. Up to two accessible entry-point seals are included, and additional entry points can typically be repaired for approximately $150 each, depending on the repair required.

If active trapping or animal removal is needed, we'll let you know so that portion can be handled by a pest or wildlife control company before the attic restoration is completed.
